The Story of Costumes: Threads of History
The details bring historical films to life. The first step in bringing a script to life is to embody that dream and translate it into reality with skillful designs. It requires not only talent but also knowledge of materials, an understanding of history, and the ability to establish a connection with characters and texts. Costume design is essentially a journey from a designer's imagination to the screen, where a story comes to life. As part of the costume design team, we value these details and strive to create the organic forms embedded in the fabric of history.
In the Atatürk project, we delve into the early 19th century, always beginning with thorough research and sourcing. Once elements encompassing clothing history, culture, and social life are compiled, we approach the design process. When characters are shaped according to the screenplay's dramaturgy, we take the first step toward the implementation of this unique story. Approximately 10,000 meters of fabric are used for civilian costumes, while 5,000 meters are dedicated solely to the main cast's costumes.
